To Attempt Grading to 1st Dan a student will be checked over a minimum period of Two Years before the actual grading to see if the following criteria has been fulfilled.

1. Attended a minimum Six out of the Last Eight WKA Courses
2. Attended a minimum Four out of the Last Six Referee Courses.
3. Must hold a Judge/Arbiter Certificate (Practical)
4. Must hold Assistant Instructor Certificate
5. Minimum of 12 months between lst Kyu and 1st Dan Grading.
6. Private Lessons (optional, but advised)

BLACK BELT 2nd DAN (Basic Techniques)

Students going for 2nd Dan the criteria is based on a Three Year period.

1. Must be Running their Own club (at least Two years)
2. Minimum age 21
3. 3 years between 1st and 2nd Dan
4. Attended a minimum Ten out of the Last Twelve W KA Course
5. Attended a minimum Six Referee Courses out of the Last Eight
6. Be a Qualified Referee
7. Private Lessons (Optional, but advised)
